What we do

From humble beginnings in 1927, Cats Protection has grown to become the UK's leading feline welfare charity. We now help more than 215,000 cats and kittens every year through our network of over 250 volunteer-run branches and 29 adoption centres.

Our work doesn’t stop there, however: we also provide an array of cat care information via our publications, website and Helpline ; promote the benefits of neutering to prevent unwanted litters from being born and becoming the abandoned cats of tomorrow and seek to educate people of all ages about cats and their care.

We run a neutering scheme every year to help owners who cannot afford the cost of the operation. This work is vital, as an unspayed female cat can be responsible for 20,000 descendants in just five years!
If you would like information about how to apply for a voucher our please telephone 03000 121212.

Please note:- We can only take cats into the Adoption Centre by prior arrangement. Sadly, we have to run a waiting list.

  •  On average we receive 10 requests a day from people wishing to bring their cats in to our centre for rehoming.
  • Unfortunately on average we receive only 1 enquiry a day from people willing to give a cat a new home. .
